Adams County Defendant Sentenced to 28 Years in Prison for Road-Rage Attempted Murder

Brighton, CO – District Attorney Brian Mason announced today the conviction and sentence for Oscar Granados, 20, for the attempted murder of a victim in Adams County in 2024 during a road-rage incident.

On October 26, 2024, at approximately 4:59 a.m., Adams County deputies responded to a shooting and vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 25 near Highway 36. Deputies found a pickup truck that had collided with the highway barrier and its driver suffering from a penetrating gunshot wound to his left forearm. The victim also sustained a grazing wound to his left ribs. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he survived the shooting.

A witness traveling on I‑25 provided dash‑camera footage showing the victim’s truck alongside a blue Dodge Durango moments before the gunfire. The truck swerved into the barrier after shots were fired, while the Durango fled the scene.

Investigators determined the shooting resulted from a road‑rage encounter between the two vehicles. Detectives learned that the Durango’s driver, Oscar Granados, accelerated to catch up to the victim’s truck and fired multiple rounds into the driver’s side as both vehicles traveled northbound. The gunfire caused the victim to lose control and crash. Physical evidence recovered from Granados’ vehicle corroborated the witness footage and the victim’s injuries.

Granados was arrested and later charged for firing the shots that caused the victim’s injuries and the subsequent crash. The investigation confirmed he was the individual who discharged a firearm during the incident.

“This outrageous, violent shooting on I-25 nearly took a life because of uncontrolled road rage on the highway,” said District Attorney Brian Mason. “Firing multiple rounds into a moving vehicle on a busy interstate is an extraordinarily dangerous act. The defendant will now spend decades in prison because of it. This conviction ensures accountability for conduct that put countless drivers at risk.”

On April 10, 2026, an Adams County jury convicted Granados of Attempted First-Degree Murder (F2), First-Degree Assault (F3), Providing a Handgun to a Juvenile (F4), and two sentence enhancers were proven, Violent Crime-Causing Death/Serious Bodily Injury and Violent Crime-Using a Deadly Weapon.

On August 10, 2026, Adams County Senior District Court Judge Patricia Herron sentenced the defendant to 28 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

“I am truly relieved that the victim in this case survived,” added DA Mason. “And I am grateful to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and my team at the DA’s Office for their work securing a conviction on this case.”

Senior Deputy District Attorney Aaron Brunskill and Senior Deputy District Attorney Brian McGarry led the prosecution of the case.
