Defendant Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Eluding Police and Crashing His Vehicle into an Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy
Brighton, CO — Today, 17th Judicial District Attorney Brian Mason is announcing the 20-year prison sentence for Cesar Irreza, 30, following his guilty plea on April 30, 2021, to Attempted First Degree Murder – Extreme Indifference (F2) and Vehicular Eluding – With Injury (F4).
On April 2, 2020, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of East 148th Avenue and Lanewood Street on a possible home invasion. When deputies arrived, they encountered Cesar Irreza who was driving a white Cadillac. Irreza fled the area in his vehicle and led deputies on a pursuit. The defendant reached speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour. When Irreza reached the intersection of Tower Road and East 120th Avenue, in Commerce City, he drove into a Jeep Renegade. Irreza continued forward and struck an Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy who was standing in the shoulder with stop sticks. The injured deputy said to his colleagues on scene,
“I’ve never been so close to being killed.”
Deputies eventually stopped Irreza and took him into custody. The defendant was not a suspect in the original home invasion call, but he did have an active warrant for his arrest stemming from his felony parole.
“The brazen and dangerous conduct of this defendant nearly cost an Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy his life,” said District Attorney Brian Mason. “I am pleased that justice was served in this case and that the defendant will not present a danger to the community for the foreseeable future.”
On Friday, June 18, 2021, Cesar Irreza was sentenced to:
- Attempted First Degree Murder – Extreme Indifference (F2)
- Vehicular Eluding – With Injury (F4)
The sentences will run concurrently. Deputy District Attorney John Paul McCarty led the prosecution of the case.
