Lumumba Sayers Convicted of Second-Degree Murder, Various Other Charges After Two-Week Trial in Adams County District Court


Brighton, CO – The District Attorney’s Office announced today that an Adams County Jury found Lumumba Sayers, 47, guilty of Second-Degree Murder, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Attempt to Commit Tampering with Physical Evidence on Monday, April 27, 2026.  

Sayers was accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Malcolm Watson in the parking lot of the Paradice Island Water Park in Commerce City on August 10, 2024.  

On Monday, April 27, 2026, the Adams County Jury in this case found Sayers guilty of: 

  • Second-Degree Murder (F2) 

  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6) 

  • Attempt to Commit Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6) 

Adams County District Court Judge Jeffrey Ruff will sentence the defendant on July 24, 2026, at 8:30am in Division F. The District Attorney's Office is withholding further comment until after sentencing.
