17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Files First-Degree Murder Charge Against Carlos Padilla-Garcia


January 16, 2026

Brighton, CO – The District Attorney’s Office announced today the filing of a First-Degree Murder charge against Carlos Padilla-Garcia, 17, related to the fatal shooting of a victim at a home near North 96th Avenue and Strasburg Road in Adams County on January 11, 2026. 

Padilla-Garcia is charged with: 

  • First-Degree Murder (F1)
  • First-Degree Attempted Murder (F2) (3 Counts)
  • First-Degree Assault (F3) (3 Counts)
  • Menacing (F5)
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile (M2)
  • Crime of Violence (SE) (4 Counts)

Case number 2026CR000162 was filed in Adams County District Court. Padilla-Garcia's next court appearance is on January 20, 2026, at 8:30am. 

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
