17th Judicial District Attorney's Office Charges Juveniles with First-Degree Attempted Murder for Thornton Shooting

Brighton, CO – The District Attorney’s Office announced today the filing of First-Degree Attempted Murder charges against three juveniles for an alleged shooting that occurred along West Thornton Parkway in Thornton on September 5, 2025. 

Case # 2025CR2550: Nathan Gonzales, 17, is charged with: 

  • First-Degree Attempted Murder (F2) (5 Counts)
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (F5)
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile -- Second Offense (F5)
  • Crime of Violence (SE) (5 Counts)

Case # 2025CR2551: Ronald Sena, 16, is charged with: 

  • First-Degree Attempted Murder (F2) (5 Counts)
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (F5)
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile (M2)
  • Crime of Violence (SE) (5 Counts)

Case # 2025CR2549: Zayden Tafoya, 17, is charged with: 

  • First-Degree Attempted Murder (F2) (5 Counts)
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (F5)
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile (M2)
  • Crime of Violence (SE) (5 Counts)

All three cases were direct filed in Adams County District Court. Gonzales' next court appearance is on September 26, 2025, at 8:30am in Courtroom M. Sena's next court appearance is on October 14, 2025, at 8:30am in Courtroom M. Tafoya's next court appearance is November 14, 2025, at 8:30am in Courtroom M. 

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. An individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
