17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Files First-Degree Murder Charge Against Donovan Yates

Brighton, CO —Today, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is announcing the filing of a First-Degree Murder charge against Donovan Yates, 17, related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man near Beeler Street and Colfax Avenue in Aurora on August 8, 2022.
Yates' charges include:
First-Degree Murder (F1)
Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile (M2)
Case number 2022CR002528 was filed in Adams County District Court. Yates' next court appearance will be on December 9, 2022.
Booking photos are not available for juvenile defendants even when the cases are direct filed into District Court.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
