Broomfield Husband Convicted of Fatally Shooting His Wife, Sentenced to Life in Prison Without Parole

October 23, 2024

Broomfield, CO – Today, District Attorney Brian Mason is announcing the First-Degree Murder conviction and sentence of life in prison without parole for John Ramos, 30, following his jury trial in Broomfield County District Court.

On September 25, 2022, John Ramos called 911 to report that he shot his wife once in the chest and once in the head in their apartment along Ridge Parkway in Broomfield. Ramos stated that he was defending himself and that his wife had been abusive to him throughout the day. When Broomfield Officers arrived, they asked Ramos to leave the apartment, and he was taken into custody.

Ramos shot the victim three times with his 9MM pistol while she was making dinner in the kitchen. Ramos shot the victim once in the forehead and twice in the neck. During his interview following the arrest, Ramos admitted that his wife never threatened him with a knife as he initially stated on the 911 call.

“This was a brutal killing,” said District Attorney Brian Mason. “In the worst possible act of domestic violence, a husband fatally shot his wife in the kitchen while she was making dinner. It’s hard to fathom such a horrific act against a loved one. I’m thankful to my team, law enforcement, and the jury in this case for delivering a just verdict.”

On October 14, 2024, Ramos’ case proceeded to trial. After four days, a Broomfield County Jury convicted the defendant of First-Degree Murder (F1). On October 23, 2024, a Broomfield County District Court Judge sentenced Ramos to Life in Prison Without the Possibility of Parole.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristen Baker and Senior Deputy District Attorney Kathryn Webb led the prosecution of this case.
