17th Judicial District Attorney's Office Files Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene Charges Against Erik Hernandez-Escobar

Brighton, CO —Today, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is announcing the filing of Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and various other charges against Erik Hernandez-Escobar, 20, related to a fatal motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Holly Street and 58th Avenue in Commerce City on October 6, 2024. 

Hernandez-Escobar is charged with: 
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident (F3) (2 Counts)
  • Vehicular Homicide (F4) 
  • Vehicular Assault (F5)
  • False Reporting of Identifying Information to Law Enforcement (F6)
  • Speed Exhibition (T2)
  • Compulsory Insurance (T1)
Case number 2024CR003185 was filed in Adams County District Court. The next court appearance is this morning in Division E. 

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
