Defendant Who Posed as a Life Coach and Mentor for Children Sentenced to Prison for Sexually Assaulting, Exploiting Child Who Entrusted Him

Brighton, CO — Today, District Attorney Brian Mason is announcing the prison sentence for Frank Raymond, 32, following his guilty plea to First-Degree Assault, Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child, and Sexual Exploitation in Adams County District Court earlier this year.  

Frank Raymond, who used the alias Arya Magi online and posed as a children's life coach, play therapist, and mentor, was arrested by Thornton Police in June 2022 after he was found sleeping in a parked car outside a restaurant with a naked 12-year-old boy.  

Following the incident, investigators uncovered that Raymond had engaged in an intimate relationship with the boy following a meeting at a park a year earlier. The child referred to Raymond as his ‘life coach’ and denied a sexual relationship; however, searches of Raymond’s phone revealed a different story. Videos of Raymond engaging in sexual acts with the child were found on his phone, and he was subsequently charged with crimes related to the abuse and exploitation of the child.  

In the wake of the discovery of videos found on Raymond’s phone, Thornton Police obtained a search warrant for a cloud storage account that contained thousands of files of child sexual abuse materials. Raymond was charged under a new case number for those offenses.  

On May 30, 2024, Raymond pled guilty to First-Degree Assault (F3), Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child (F5), and Sexual Exploitation (F4). A Thornton Police Detective who worked the cases described the images as the worst she’s seen in her 30-year law enforcement career. On August 29, 2024, Adams County Chief District Court Judge Kyle Seedorf sentenced the defendant to 29 years in the Department of Corrections.  

“This was an outrageous and horrific crime,” said District Attorney Brian Mason. “Sexual assault on a child is disgraceful. This defendant preyed on a young boy under the guise of a mentor and life coach. The boy entrusted this defendant and then he harmed this young child in a deep and profound way. If not for a thorough and exhaustive investigation by the Thornton Police Department, this defendant may still be out there preying on other children. I’m thankful for their work and the work of my DA Office team in securing this conviction and sentence. With this significant sentence to the Department of Corrections, this defendant will not be able to harm another child for a long time.” 

Senior Deputy District Attorney Natalie Scarpella of the District Attorney’s Office Child Victim Unit led the prosecution of this case.
