District Attorney, Law Enforcement, Community Leaders, Gun Violence Victims to Host Gun Lock Giveaway as Part of #FreeGunLockWeek
December 6, 2023
Brighton, CO —Today, Adams County District Attorney Brian Mason, Adams County Sheriff Gene Claps, the Adams County Commissioners, the Adams County Health Department, and the family of Vaughn Bigelow, Jr., who were tragically impacted by an act of gun violence in Westminster, are announcing a Gun Lock Giveaway Event as part of #FreeGunLockWeek in Adams County.
On Tuesday, December 12th, at 9:00am at the Adams County Human Services Center in Westminster, the individuals listed above will be present to hand out gun locks to anyone who would like one as well as information about gun safety.
During the holidays, people will host parties and events, and young children might have access to firearms if they are not properly stored. Also, the holidays can be a difficult and emotional time for some, and locks or safes can help avert the impulsive use of a gun to harm themselves or others.
The gun locks were provided by local law enforcement agencies and
Big Waves, Inc., a non-profit that advocates for gun sensibility and safety in honor and remembrance of
Vaughan Bigelow, Jr. who was killed in an act of gun violence in 2018. The
Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) is responsible for organizing the events throughout Adams and Broomfield Counties.
